Wheat Allergy

We have a wheat allergy which means our body has an allergic reaction (IgE mediated) to a protein found in wheat. For many of us, this took years to discover as we struggled with undiagnosed hives, rashes, abdominal issues, breathing difficulties, and many other symptoms, from mild to severe. This community is here to help you find variety, health and that tasty wheat-free brownie among the scores of wheat-free products on the market. For those of you avoiding gluten (wheat, rye and barley), please visit our Gluten Free community.

Does anyone know of any wheat free breads and/or cereals out there? Wheat free pastas would be good too. Thanks.

Kyder Thick & Rich Tomato Ketchup

I strongly suspect that this product contains wheat, as my daughter (who has a severe gluten allergy) had an allergic reaction shortly after eating this ketchup brand.

Alfaro's Micro-Bakery Extra Sourdough, Santa Cruz Bread

I haven't gotten myself tested for wheat allergies but I suspect I have them. Along with various prepackaged foods containing gluten, many breads cause fairly severe joint and muscle pains - arthritic reaction, basically. This bread seems to be an exception! I even ran a test. After eating a few slices a day of this bread without any ill effects (working through the whole loaf in less than a week), I tried a sourdough bread from Trader Joe's, also without baker's yeast but with "starter" listed as an ingredient. 2 pieces resulted in 10 hours of arthritic reaction. Back to Alfaro's extra-sourdough.... no reaction, even after several pieces in one day.

    Also, it tastes great.

This bread is probably not for everyone who is sensitive to wheat, but it works for me.
