My wife is expecting our first child and is currently 3 days late. Anybody have any good ideas on how to get labor started? We would hate to have to induce. Thanks and wish me (err... my wife) luck!

  Keith and Mrs. Keith...congratulations! Dont sweat it too much. 3 days isn't a lot. The baby and your Dr. or midwife will know when it's time. I was 2 weeks late with my first and I had to be induced. It was just time consuming. My 2nd was 2 weeks late also, no induction that time; she came when she was ready. Enjoy this time in your lives; it is exciting and memorable.

  Congratulations on your first! There is no other experience in life that can match the delivery of a child. You have an awsome time coming.
  
  My first one was 2 weeks late, so I wouldn't worry, that happens a lot. My last 2 were on time and early. The difference was in my activity level up to having them I think. I was very active with my 2nd and had just had a birthday party for my 1st with 8 little 5 yr olds running around. I was still out shopping for baby things all day when my 3rd decided to come early.
  
  Here's a tip if delivery pains start. To know that they are real, soak in a hot bath. That will stop them if it's not quite time yet and save a lot of time in the hospital, waiting.

My wife and I are expecting a child in December and have started planning the nursary. We don't want to know the sex of the child so picking color schemes is tricky. We were thinking primary colors but aren't sure. Does anyone have any ideas for good color schemes that won't just be a series of greens and tans?

  I know what you mean -- besides, I am not such a great believer in sticking to pink or blue even when the gender is known. I think kids need bright, cheerful, happy rooms -- but with colors that can support a variety of colorful add-ons. My favorite right now is a shade of buttercup yellow (can take either pink or blue highlights without looking weird) -- cheery and bright so it lights up the room. You may also want to look into chalkboard paints (green, red, blue) to provide a 1-2 foot border from the floor up -- if you have toddlers (or when your child turns into one) these are great for giving them room to be creative and go crazy with chalk without the mess. I've also seen some really beautiful stencils -- with a pale yellow background, daubing bits of pink, blue, red and green into... the stencils can really make the room look fun (and complement the colors on all those traditional toy colors..)

  I think Blue can be very soothing for boys or girls - especially light blues coupled with accents of teal or lime green and white can get across playful feel that could be suitable for a boy or girl :D Also there is a color trend of coloring the baby's room blues AND pinks.
