Helps lower cholesterol. 25 Grams of soy protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and... cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease. 8th Continent Light contains 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving. 8th Continent is a one-of-a-kind place that combines great taste with the heart benefits of soymilk! Excellent source of calcium. Low fat. Lactose free.

I don't really have a brand loyalty when it comes to soy milk; I typically vacillate between 8th Continent and Silk when the prices are at stake. On my last shopping trip I found that 8th Continent was, in fact, cheaper, and I'm on a budget here. I'm typically the type of girl who snaps up store brands whenever possible, but if your market of choice doesn't carry generic soy milk (ahem, Stop & Shop or Shaw's) and you need soy milk, you have to make some choices and experiment a little.

There isn't much difference in taste, though I suppose 8th Continent's is less distinctive (see my Silk review). I've found that, oddly enough, that either brand works fine as a milk substitute when making mac 'n cheese, for example. Bonus: no tummy troubles or congestion!

    EDIT (10/8/08): It turns
... out that Shaws DOES make soy milk through their "Wild Harvest" organic line. However, I still stand by my loyalty to Silk/8th Continent, as I found the generic to be very disappointing. This is one of those few (in my opinion) cases where the name brand is, in fact, way better than the generic.
