I love regular UFO, and I love raspberries. I do not love Raspberry UFO. The raspberry was way too tart for me - it made the beer feel very vinegary on the tongue. I like most fruit beers that I've had - I think this is the first one where the fruit was just too overwhelming in an unappetizing way.
I love unfiltered wheat beers. I enjoy raspberries. Good combo? NO! It's not an over the top sweet beer, but the flavor is wildly artificial. Also it is a pink color. Beer shouldn't be pink as this was. Skip the artificial flavors, and go with a regular Harpoon UFO with a big slice of lemon if you're wanting something slightly fruity.
Yelp hooked me up with this beer last night at the Yelp Elite Event. Despite the fact that everything free tastes good to me, I wasn't a huge fan of this beer. I'm sort of particular about fruit beers... I like the taste to be more subtle and less overpowering and this beer pulled a complete Coup d'tat on my tastebuds. At first, the cold beer hit my lips quite nicely until i had a big swig in my mouth. At this point the fruit flavor hit me a bit too hard and became too sickly sweet for my liking and the aftertaste, well, it felt bitter, tangy, and unpleasing. Perhaps raspberry just isn't a taste I like in a beer, because Seadog Blueberry Wheat hits me just fine. Raspberry UFO though... well... it just masked the wheat taste way too much for fancy.
Raspberry Hefeweizen is a delicious, light refreshing beer that isn't overly sweet or fruity like many fruit beers. There is only a dry hint of raspberry, so you don't feel like you fell into the back of a raspberry truck. Both men and women alike enjoy this fine brew.
