Wheat ale with lemon and grains of paradise. Refreshing, crisp, and tangy, Summer Ale is brewed with wheat... malt, lemon zest, and Grains of Paradise, a long-forgotten and mysterious brewing spice used by Renaissance brewers centuries ago. Inspired by the traditional Belgian White ales, Summer Ale is an American wheat ale from one of America's original craft brewers.

A very nice, citrusy-tasting Summer ale. MUCH better from a keg than a bottle.

Definately better on draught than out of the bottle. I am still a big fan though as it has very refreshing taste and is not something that fills you up.

This beer has a very lemony, strong citrus smell and a distinct spicy smell and taste that hints of ginger, wheat and hops that is common in Summer beers. Medium carbonation, moderate to mild in spice & taste.

I'm actually not a huge fan of Sam Adam's line of beers but this particular one is satisfactory when I'm at the bar. It costs significantly less in Boston because it's brewed nearby and I can feel good that since the beer is local it takes much less carbon to ship. However, there are several summer beers that offer a much fuller taste. This beer is a might dry, but definately a spicy, citrusy infused improvement on their other selections which have the distinct taste of having been watered down.

With the glaring exception of their summer offering, I'm not much of a fan of the Sam Adams family of beers. Typically they're too bitter for my liking, but Sam Summer Ale is a nice, light but not watered-down choice for balmy summer days.
