    Quaker Steel Cut Oats

Frozen premade steel cuts?! I gotta get me some of those!! Biggest deterrent in making these is the extra time involved (though soooo worth it!).

I'm an avid oats eater, and I down a big ol' bowl every morning to start the day right. I make these on the weekends as a little change-up from the regular rolled variety.

Here's a little trick I picked up somewhere along the way - the night before I want these I'll throw 2 cups of steel cuts into my slow cooker with 4 or 5 cups of water (odds are you'll say to yourself "this is way too much water" but trust me, they'll soak that all up and then some). I usually toss in some raisins or other dried fruit, some sliced almonds or other nuts and a couple dashes of cinnamon. Then, I just set the slow cooker to "low" and go to bed. In the morning I
... add a little milk to thin the oats out a bit throw in a few scoops of vanilla protein powder and it's ready to go.

Give it a try, you won't be dissapointed.

I've also made some pretty good risottos (yes, savory oats) with steel cuts!

Keebler Fudge Shoppe Mini Fudge Stripes Fudge Covered Shortbread Cookies

    Junk food is junk food.

I've noticed these 100-Calorie packs have caught on in recent times, but 100 calories of trash is still 100 calories of trash!

The big food corporations are LOVING this whole 100-calorie craze; notice the ingredients say "partially hydrogenated oils"? That's Trans Fat, people.. the kind that our bodies have no use for.. the kind that is making Americans larger and larger by the day... the kind that KILLS. "But, the nutrition facts clearly state there is NO Trans Fat!" It sure does, but consider this: a product can contain up to .49 grams of killer Trans Fat, while still staying 0g. Smaller portions means less disclosure of a deadly substance. Just another example of "health food that isn't."

You wouldn't put "just a gallon" of bad gas in your car, would you?
