Do I often order Guinness? No. Is there another beer that means so much to so many? No. Guinness is a velvety smooth classic that's not the best Irish stout on the market - but there is, and always will be, only one Guinness.
This Fume Blanc is really good. In fact, after a visit to their winery, I bought a case of 1999 way back in 2002. For the price, I thought it a perfect summer time wine - well-balanced, slightly sweet, dry but not too dry, and some easy on the palatte fruit. A reliable favorite!
This is a pretty good-value South African wine - but quaint story aside, it doesn't stand out from the crowd of good-value wines from producers south of the equator. The Goats do Roam line is Fairview's big export label, and I think it holds its own with some other value biggies from down under (Rosemount, Lindemans...) minus the Aussie punch. But its the amazing higher-end Fairview wines that I remember from a visit to the winery that keeps me buying a bottle of Goats every now and then.
