Kendall-Jackson California, 2004 Chardonnay

In my experience, Kendall Jackson makes a good, dependable California Chardonnay. Most are blends of different wineries and barrels, leading to a consistency that is hard to find elsewhere. If you are willing to do the work you can find the same quality for a lower price, but this bottle has never disappointed.

Birds Eye Baby Sweet Peas

These are inexpensive and add great, fresh flavor to many hot dishes.

I use them in soups, pot pies, and sometimes in pasta. A very simple pasta dish is farfalle with baby peas, ham, bacon or proscuitto depending on your mood and budget, and maybe a little goat cheese or parmesan for flavor. You can feed a crowd for next to nothing!

Here's a question. Where is your time better spent -- figuring out how to greenify your life, right down to paper towels and turning down the thermostat, or pushing for policy change at a broader level, like moving toward capping carbon emissions?

I know the best answer is *both*, but often I feel like rinsing out plastic bags for reuse is missing the real issues of population growth, energy, and rapid development.
