What is Zeer?

Zeer is a product community that connects people to product knowledge, to each other, and to a world of self-expression.

Imagine that instead of being overwhelmed by an abundance of products, you could whittle the world down to a store section build just for you, with all of your friends hanging out, experts available to answer your questions, and all of the products you like and need in one place. That's what living in the Zeer world is all about.

Right now, Zeers can discover, share and discuss thousands of food products. Whether its elbow macaroni or your pooch's favorite chow, as a Zeer you can say what you think and hear from people you trust. As Zeer grows so shall the number of products we cover -- stay tuned and let us know where your passions lie!

Is Zeer Free?

Yes! All of Zeer's features are 100% free to our members.

What is a Zeer?

Zeers are individuals who speak according to their needs by reviewing, researching, and discussing the products they buy frankly with communities that they love. Zeers are often passionate, savvy, and connected. Instead of feeling lost in a sea of self-doubt, they are vessels of strength: confident, admired, and in-touch with their needs.

Zeers get the scoop before they buy, join product communities and meet people who share like interests (whether it's a food allergy, lifestyle choice, or health condition); they read unbiased reviews from real people, tap into communities where they can discuss products frankly with friendly people that care, and help grow the communities they love by sharing their wisdom with anyone on the web.

Communities

How do I join a community?

To join a community, go to our Communities page and find the community you're interested in joining. Next to the community name, there should be a Join button. Click this button, and you're in! No application process necessary.

Why should I join Zeer communities?

By joining Zeer communities that you care about, you learn more about the products you're reviewing and rating on a personal level. Not only can you make friends that share the same interests and lifestyle as you, but Zeer's infobits (little bits of information based on a community's needs) only work if you've joined one or more communities. Once you join a community, you'll get custom updates on your homepage letting you know about community activities, you can share products with that community, and also start a discussion!

How do I suggest a community?

If there is a community that you think is underrepresented on Zeer, please share your thoughts! If you click on the communities tab on the navigation bar it will take you to the community page. There should be a button on the right hand side that says "Suggest a Community." Fill out the display box and write in your community recommendation or shoot us an email to feedback@zeer.com.

How do I leave a community?

If you want to leave a community, go to your profile and click the link next to your profile "Edit Your Profile." If you scroll to the bottom, under "My Communities" it will list all the communities where you're a member. To end your membership, click "Leave Community" and confirm you want to leave. Keep in mind that if you want to continue to see infobits for that community, you must remain a member.

I need to change the reason I joined my community. How do I edit it?

There are two ways to change the reason you joined a community:

  • 1.) The easiest way is to go to the community page you want to leave. Under the community name and description you'll see the reason you joined the community. Click the "Change this" link to edit your statement.
  • 2.) Go to your profile and click the link next to your profile "Edit Your Profile." If you scroll to the bottom, under "My Communities" it will list all the communities where you're a member. Click "Change Reason" and edit your statement.

What's the difference between a community discussion and a discussion on a product page?

Discussions that take place on a specific product pages are reserved for general discussion and questions users may have pertaining to a specific product. This is your chance to discuss a particular product openly with the entire Zeer Community.

Discussions that take place on individual community pages are open to community members only. Discussion topics usually fall under the umbrella of the overall community topic. For example, some discussion topics that may appear in the Gluten-Allergy community might be: gluten-free restaurants, products, tips, and healthy gluten-free living.

I want to share a product with a specific community. How do I add it?

Using Zeer's product search, find the product you'd like to add and go to its product page. On the right hand side of every product page is a button that says "Share with Community." A dialog box will appear. From the dropdown, select the community you'd like to add the product to and click "Share."

You'll be asked to write a review and rate the product. Click "Submit" and your review and rating will upload to your community for all to see! Your review will also appear on the product page, tagged with the community name.

I want a friend on Zeer to join a community, what do I do?

To share a community with a friend on Zeer, visit the page of the community you'd like to share. If you are a member, you can find the community link in your profile. If you are not a member visit our communities page and click on the community name you'd like to share. After traveling the individual community page, look to the right hand side of the page. There is a "Share with Friends" button. When you click this button, you'll be taken to another page where you can select which friends you'd like to invite to the community.

Infobits

What are infobits?

On Zeer, when you join a community or look at products, in the right hand column you'll often see "infobits." These little bits of information are our way of helping you get the information you need, quickly.

Here's an example. If you are allergic to peanuts, the first piece of information you might care about when looking at a product would be whether it contains peanuts, or is "peanut safe." Because of that, we've created this infobit in the Peanut Allergy community. When you join, you automatically tell us that when you look at a product, you want to see this information if it is available. So when you visit a Hershey's Chocolate Bar page, you see very clearly that the product is Peanut Safe.

If you have your own idea for an infobit, please let us know by sending an email to feedback@zeer.com. As we grow we'll add infobits that Zeer members find useful.

How do I add or remove infobits?

Right now, the only way to add or remove an infobit is to join or leave a community. When you visit a community page, such as "Healthy Hearts", you'll see the infobits associated with that community listed in the right hand column. To get those infobits when you are looking at products, just join the group.

If you decide you don't want to see them anymore, you can leave the group. Note that some infobits are associated with multiple communities. For example, both the Low Fat Diet and Fitness Fans communities have an infobit for low fat.

Products & Reviews

What Should I Review on Zeer?

Zeer has thousands of food products in its database for you to review. Just search for the product you'd like to review using our product search and let your tongue do the talking! Was your string cheese too stringy? Does gluten-free raspberry Mochi make your tummy do a flip of happiness? Have Oreo's 100 Calorie Packs saved your diet? All of these are appropriate topics for a Zeer product review.

Can I add a product to review?

We're sorry; Zeer users are unable to add products to our database at this time. Fortunately, Zeer's database comes fully loaded with tens of thousands of food products (complete with detailed nutritional information) for you to review. If you still feel there is a product or product category that you think needs to be added to Zeer, please let us know by clicking the "suggest a feature" button under the navigation bar at the top of any page, or by emailing us at feedback@zeer.com.

Do my reviews have to be positive?

No, we want you to write what you really think on Zeer. Positive and negative reviews are useful to a variety of different users. However, we do encourage everyone who writes a negative review on our site to be descriptive and forthcoming with details. This helps paint a clear picture of a products pros and cons to other users.

Can I edit my reviews?

Yes! Editing a review on Zeer is actually very simple. Just find the review you'd like to edit by searching through your reviews on your profile page. When you find the review you'd like to edit, click on the "Edit My Review" link which should appear at the end of your review text. Edit your review and press submit. You can edit and re-edit your review as much as you like.
If for some reason this link does not appear next to your review text, you may not be logged in. If the problem persists, shoot an email to feedback@zeer.com.

You will also find the "Edit My Review" link next your review, anywhere on the site where your review appears. Good luck!

Can I delete a review?

Sorry! Right now, Zeer members cannot delete a review on their own. If you need to remove a review, send your request to feedback@zeer.com. Include the product name and a link to your profile and your reason for removing a review and we'll get it down in a jiffy.

Can I review a product that my company makes?

If you work for the manufacturer of any product listed on Zeer, we encourage you to provide insight into your product or company so long as you disclose that you work for the manufacturer of the product. This includes situations where you are paid by the manufacturer or one of its agents to write reviews.

Keep in mind that Zeer is a community-centric site that believes in real, organic reviews and discussions. As long as you stay true to our Terms of Use and give real, honest insight about the products you care about, you're always welcome at Zeer.

Does Zeer ever remove reviews?

Zeer does not remove reviews from the site unless specifically asked by the writer or if they're found to be in violation of Zeer's Terms of Use. Most commonly this will be for reviews that the Zeer community flags for offensive content.

I want to share a product with a friend on Zeer, what do I do?

To share a product with a friend on Zeer, visit the page of the product you'd like to share by using Zeer's Product Search.

On the product page, on the right hand side there is a "Share With Friends" button. When you click this button, you'll be taken to another page where you can select which friends you'd like to view the product. Here you can add comments about why you think the product will be useful to your friend.

Reporting a Problem

I found a bug or a have feedback. What should I do?

When navigating the site, if you find a bug or issue, please let us know immediately! On every page you'll see a toolbar at the top that has two buttons: Make A Suggestion and Report a Problem. In the unlikely chance that there is a bug with our feedback form (and ironically, you need to give feedback on that, too), please send your feedback to feedback@zeer.com.

What should I do if a user is being offensive or violating our terms of use/community guidelines?

For every review or discussion, you will see a flag icon. If you think someone is being lewd, lascivious, threatening, harassing, racist, hateful, or violating any other terms of use, including excessive spamming or posting personal information about other users, please flag the discussion seed or review in question or send an email to feedback@zeer.com.

Someone is harassing me, what do I do?

Zeer has a zero tolerance policy on harassment. If someone is making you uncomfortable, please send a detailed email to feedback@zeer.com with the title "Harassment".

What if I don't like a users comments, but they're not violating our terms of use/community guidelines?

If a user is NOT violating our Community Guidelines but you feel like sharing your opinion, the best way to do so is by "thumbing" the review or discussion seed. Next to every discussion or review, you'll see two icons. You can give a "thumbs up" if you feel the user is making a good point and a give a "thumbs down" if you disagree.

How do I change my basic account information?

To edit your profile or to change your account preferences, log in and click on the "Settings" link that appears at the top of any page. You will be able to edit your account preferences here.

Friends

I just signed up for Zeer. Who is Shannon B. and why is she my friend?

Shannon B. is the Zeer Community manager; she's here to help you with any problems or issues you may have, answer questions, and inspire you to get involved in the Zeer community.

How do I add or remove someone as a friend?

Adding and removing friends is easy:

  • TO FIND: Using our people search find the user you're looking for, or click on a member's photo icon or name located next to their review or discussion. This will bring you to the member's profile page.
  • TO ADD: If the person is not your friend and you'd like them to be one, click on the "Add As Friend" box next to their profile photo.
  • TO REMOVE: If the person is already your friend and you'd like to remove them, click on the "Remove As Friend" box next to their profile photo. *
  • *Zeer's Community Manager, Shannon B., is the only friend you cannot remove. Her friendship is eternal like that of SamWise Gamgee and coincidentally, she's also a fan of Po-ta-toes.

What does Zeer do with my personal information?

We care about your privacy and will never give your email address or personally identifiable information to a third party without your permission.

In general, we use the information collected on Zeer to provide our services to you and other users and members, to help us understand who uses Zeer, to improve Zeer, and to contact you for customer service purposes.

How do I cancel my Zeer account?

Submit an email to feedback@zeer.com.

Please allow 72 hours for changes to take place. When your account is cancelled, your account and profile will be deactivated but not deleted. The content you have produced will live on our site unless otherwise specified by you.
